Let’s spring forward with your social media in March

What you’ll need

30 mins, pen, paper

Step 1

  • Record your February numbers
  • What worked, what didn’t?
  • Reflect on how you feel about the platforms you focused on? Is your audience active on the platform?
  • Did you get the right type of leads and enquiries coming into your business?

Step 2

  • What are your business goals for March?  How many enquiries do you need?  How many sales?
  • How can social media help you achieve these goals?
  • Which platform(s) will you focus on?

EXAMPLE SMART OBJECTIVE

Specific: Increase brand awareness on Facebook

Measurable: Have an average of 10 comments per post.

Achievable: Yes – now averaging 5 comments per post.

Realistic: Yes – by spending 15 minutes a day focusing on engaging with my target audience.

Time-sensitive: Review every month on 30th – achieve by 30/4/21

  • Quick review – does anything need updating on your profile? Is all your info up to date?  Do your header banners need changing? What about your pinned post?
  • Decide the posting frequency that works for your business – algorithms love consistency.  When are your audience online? Schedule the time into your diary. 

Step 3

  • What is the topic you are focusing on in March? This could be one of the key specialisms you have or your unique selling point (USP).  For example, in March I’m focusing on Instagram, so I’ll write a blog and post tips to my social media profiles.
  • What awareness days are there that resonate with you, your business and your customers?

March is the start of Spring so you could post photos showing the signs of spring around you.  In March there is World Book Day, talk about your favourite book, what you are reading now etc. There’s international Women’s Day, St David’s Day, St Patrick’s Day, Mother’s Day, there’s plenty to inspire you!  Pop these into your calendar.

Step 4

  • Think about your customer journey.  How can you move your audience along your funnel from where they are now to where you’d like them to be, to purchase your product or service?

           Think about 6 different pillars of content (ICEISE)

INSPIRE

CONVINCE

EDUCATE

INFORM

SUPPORT

ENTERTAIN

Try to make sure you cover all of these – often we focus too much on the convince – “buy our stuff/ book our service” and not on the other categories.

  • Decide on your mix of curated and created content.

Created content are the posts you create.

Curated content is more than simply re-sharing other people’s content, curation is a way to provide extra value to your followers while highlighting your own industry expertise.  You might find an article online that you think would interest your audience, so save it and use it as a social media posts.

Populate your calendar with your ideas, research the curated content and save these to use when you need them.

Step 5

The fun bit – create in Canva (other platforms are available). I love Canva because it’s so easy to use and it makes posts look so professional and consistent.  You can resize your posts for all the platfoms you’re using and post (and even schedule with the pro version) directly to the platform without leaving Canva.  It’s awesome and saves so much time!
